The Rotary Feeding Overhead Crane, also widely referred to in the steel industry as the Rotary Scrap Charging Crane or Converter Charging Crane, is a specialized heavy-duty metallurgical crane purpose-built for charging scrap steel and auxiliary materials into converters and electric arc furnaces in steelmaking plants. Unlike a standard double girder overhead crane whose trolley moves only in straight lines, this crane's defining feature is a 270-degree rotating trolley mechanism that enables the lifting unit to rotate, precisely adjusting the angle and orientation of the scrap charging trough.

270-Degree Rotating Trolley for Precision Feeding — The crane‘s defining function: an additional rotation mechanism on the trolley enables the lifting unit to rotate 270 degrees (extendable to 330 degrees on some models), with controlled starting and braking. This allows the operator to position the scrap trough close to the wall during standby—conserving workshop space—and then rotate the trough precisely to align the discharge port with the furnace opening when charging is required.

Four-Point Twin Gantry Hook Beam for Even Load Distribution — The dedicated lifting device consists of two gantry hook beam groups (front and rear), four pulley blocks, and four plate hooks. This configuration distributes the weight of the loaded scrap trough evenly across four lifting points, eliminating the need for manual ground-crew assistance during hooking and unhooking—a significant improvement in both efficiency and personnel safety.

Large-Angle Trough Tipping for Complete Material Discharge — The crane is engineered to tilt the scrap trough through an angle greater than 60 degrees, enabling all waste material to be discharged in a single continuous operation. This eliminates the need for multiple tipping cycles and ensures that the furnace receives the full charge without residual material remaining in the trough.

High-Temperature Fire-Resistant Design — The driver’s cabin and all structural components are engineered for the extreme heat environment adjacent to the converter, where the cabin sits close to a ladle covered in flames. The crane structure carries a high fire-resistance and heat-resistance rating, ensuring structural integrity and operator safety during continuous steelmaking operations.

Heavy-Duty Double-Girder Structure with A7–A8 Work Duty — Two parallel high-grade steel main girders provide the stability and load distribution required for handling heavy scrap troughs in continuous, high-intensity service cycles, with work duty ratings up to A8.

Smooth VFD-Controlled Operation — All motion axes are driven by variable frequency drives delivering stepless speed regulation, shock-free starts and stops, and precise load positioning—critical when aligning the discharge port with the furnace opening in confined spaces.
